Meet the Culture of the Desert
Al Ain is the traditional home of the Sheikhs and is perhaps the most traditional of the major cities in the UAE. It is here that desert life is on its truest display. A series of oases, there is archaeological evidence that this remarkable corner of the world has been inhabited for millennia.
A visit to the Al Ain National Museum and Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum is an absolute must, as is a trip to the famous camel racetrack and the livestock market. The wealth of culture to be found in this once-vital desert trading centre includes bazaars that date back to the 18th century. Discover a date palm grove with an ancient “falaj,” or irrigation system. Watch the bargaining at Al Ain's world-renowned camel market. After this, head over to Jebel Hafeet, a high mountain that surveys the beauty of Al Ain below. Visit the natural hot springs at the foot of Jebel Hafeet and feel the healing power of the abundant water of this magical area. At the end of this whirlwind tour, have lunch in a star hotel before you making your way back to Abu Dhabi.
